NAR & Cap In Trade ...
Ladies and Gentleman,

My husband is watching C-SPAN while I am studying for my Broker's License.  I have recently been "discussing" sharing benefits of Association membership with a president of a chapter in another state.  One of them was my belief in NAR's PAC to advocate for issues we support in Washington.

I am personally sick at hearing that the NAR has endorsed this Bill now being debated and voted on in Congress.  Is anyone else dismayed by our organization endorsing a topic upon which the nation as a whole is split about 40-60, and which is probably our own split on the issue?

Please provide some dramamine for my nausea - COMMENT!  Thank you - Beth Fread, Realtor/ GRI, SRES

Here is a link to a poll here at BrokerAgentSocial.com where you can vote on this issue:

And here is a link where real estate professionals can petition both NAR and Congress on the issue if they'd like:

I, like you Beth am sick that the NAR could endorsed this bill, anything that would ad that kind of cost would have a great effect on home ownership, and I mean this will have a negative impact on the whole country! All I would ask of the NAR is to poll all of its members to know what we want! It's time now, more than ever, for the people heading up not only our organization, but all of them to listen to what the people are saying! I would also encourage any one that cares about our industry that does not want this bill to pass to contact their states members of Congress and tell them what you want them to do, always remember they work for us, at least for now.

Only our Congress can, at a time that our nation is in a crisis, take a stand on an issue that will further put the US at a disadvantage to the entire world, in addition it will put a further strain on our economy. Energy costs will rise and we will be discouraged to use the one natural resource that we have, coal.
China is building 1 to 2 coal fired plants a week for cheap energy in order to compete with the world and we are looking to get rid of them for more expensive ways to generate electricity.
Why can’t we take a middle ground, instead of trying to cure the world of global warming (which is questionable at best) why can't we just continue to work on ways to burn coal better and cleaner. Then also at the same time continue to fund other projects for the future.
The problem at times with Congress is they are insulated from economic down turns being we are the ones that pay them and they determine what we pay them.

I am so sick of the Democrats putting Ideology ahead of reality. I can't believe they are even considering making the economy worse just to appease their own egos and beliefs in this "global warming" scam that has been perpetuated by lying politicians....hmmmhmmm Al Gore!!

The United Nations scientists have already condemned his movie as being mis-leading and basically said that even IF humans are contributing to global warming, there is no way that it would be as drastic as painted out by the paranoid liberals.

The fact that an association that I PAY FOR every year is endorsing this horrible bill literally makes me sick to my stomach.

I am all for improving the environment. I pay extra fees in my state annually for licensing on vehicles to give money to our DNR but to force the highest tax penalty in the history of our country onto to a resource that millions of Americans rely on to get through their daily lives, during a recession of all times is NOT looking out for the American people. It's looking out for the bleeding heart liberals that think they are creating "Change that we can believe in." What a joke.....more like "Change we can go bankrupt with!"

Write your congress people and let them know that this bill is garbage and has been introduced at one of the worst times possible, considering the current condition of our economy.

I can see it now... 80 plus percent of all listings are either REO or Sort Sale...I can see it now...before any transfer, what amounts to retro-fitting must occur...Empress Nancy and Barney the Magnificent strike yet again...

OK... how about some common sense for a change... mandatory standards for new construction, when it will be least expensive to do, makes sense... should a person upgrade to better energy efficiency, add insulation, change windows, caulk, swap out to on demand water heating, where feasible go solar, yes...but in this economy to add further impediments and costs...to add additional time prior to the sale of existing housing is foolhardy, dumb, stupid and idiotic... thus it will pass... the Cacophony of Condescending Conceited Clueless Clowns of Congress are at it yet again...

I, too, am concerned that NAR endorsed this bill. I heard about the energy inspection for houses being sold only this morning on the news. I wonder if people who voted for the bill even knew of that provision. I think such a bill will hurt real estate sales and all Americans.

NAR PAC should concentrate on issues that impact only real estate. Cap in Trade obviously does not (except for reducing the value of the Dollar). Due to our own stupidity, our government is now brain dead and power hungry. Cap in Trade is just another form of taxation. I find it sad that people in certain ares of the country don't realize what is going on in this once great nation.

Cap in Trade does impact real estate...along with everything else in the economy. Just look at Germany. Is this what they want for this country? Study the Detroit market to learn how to deal with the fallout from this bill.

Interesting...Thanks Beth!

While I can understand your dismay, I don't believe the NAR should avoid issues based upon the premise you've introduced - "the nation as a whole is split about 40-60, and which is probably our own split on the issue".

I am curious - Which core principal or, in what way is the NAR not living up to it's core statement in addressing or taking a position on this issue and why should they ignore this one over another?
